THE VISIONARIES BEHIND JAMO : A PIANO DUET
FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
The Jamo brand's origin story, dating back to 1968, is deeply rooted in the Scandinavian tradition of combining practical, efficient designs with exceptional craftsmanship. This ethos has been present in the Nordic region for centuries, from the construction of fishing ships to the creation of home furnishings. In December 1966, this heritage found a unique expression in Glyngøre, a small Danish fishing village.
Preben Jacobsen, a gifted cabinetmaker, played a pivotal role in shaping the Jamo brand. He transformed a small henhouse on his property into a workshop dedicated to the meticulous crafting of high-quality loudspeakers. Preben possessed both exceptional woodworking skills and a profound understanding of acoustics, which allowed him to create speakers that stood out for their craftsmanship and sound quality.
With unwavering passion for achieving exceptional sound, Preben combined his woodworking expertise with cutting-edge technologies. The result was a range of speakers that quickly gained recognition and attention for their outstanding design and performance. This marked the beginning of Jamo's journey as a well-respected and innovative loudspeaker manufacturer.

THE OTHER HALF OF THE DUO
Our story could have ended there, if not for the crucial contribution of Preben Jacobsen’s brother-in-law, Julius Mortensen, and his years of global export sales and marketing experience in the fishing industry. With Jacobsen’s artisan skills and Mortensen’s business savvy as their foundation, the Jamo brand was born in 1968. The name itself was created using the first two letters of their surnames to form the company moniker – JAcobsen + MOrtensen.
Within two years, they built a new research, development, and production facility. By 1978, over one million speakers had rolled off the Glyngøre assembly line.
