HOW TO SET UP A JAMO 5.1 HOME CINEMA SYSTEM?

Here is a quick guide for you to set up your Jamo home cinema system.

Now that you've unboxed your Jamo speakers, it's time to install them correctly to get the best audio experience possible.

1. Choose the right setup

Most people opt for a 5.1 home theater system, consisting of two front speakers (left and right), a center channel speaker, two surround speakers for that immersive audio, and a trusty subwoofer to handle those deep bass notes.

If you are a on budget or lacking space, you can opt for bookshelf speakers for front & surround sound instead of floorstanding speakers.

If you want a more immersive experience, you can do a 5.1.2 system or 7.1.2 system.

Don't forget to purchase cables and an AVR (we recommend Onkyo and Pioneer models) to power your speakers.

2. Position your speakers correctly

If you're new to setting up a home theater audio system, here are some handy tips to get you started:

Center channel placement: Position the center channel speaker below your screen, directly facing your primary listening area. If it's on a shelf or stand, ensure the front edge aligns with the stand's edge to maintain clear dialogue.

Front speakers: Place the left and right front speakers equidistant from the screen and at least 1.8 meters apart. They should create an equilateral triangle with your primary listening spot. Slight toe-in might enhance the experience, but you will need to angle each speaker identically.

Surround speakers: Position the left and right surround speakers about three feet above and slightly behind the listeners' heads. We recommend to use our S7-15B bookshelf speakers and matching wall-mounting brackets.

Subwoofer placement: Common locations include corners, along a wall away from the corner, or beside a front speaker. Each position offers different sound characteristics, so adjust it to your liking.

For a 7.1 system: Add two rear speakers on the back wall, equidistant from the two side surrounds and at the same height.

3. Find your sweet spot

To achieve the best sound, follow these guidelines:

Keep the left and right speakers symmetrical, at least as far apart as they are from your listening position (usually 1.8 meters or more). Imagine an equilateral triangle with yourself and your speakers. This forms the foundation of your sound stage. Ensure the path from the speakers to your ears is clear, and position the tweeters at ear height, directed towards your primary listening spot for optimal high-end response.

--

4. Avoid sound reflections

Bare walls and uncarpeted floors, especially in square rooms, can lead to excessive echo, also known as reflection, which hampers bass response. To address this, consider using absorbent materials like carpets, rugs, and wall hangings. Never place your speakers against the walls to leave room for the rear-port.

--

5. Experimentation is key

Remember that speaker placement is an art. Keep track of changes you make as you move your speakers and note your preferences before adjusting further. Make small adjustments to maintain a consistent baseline for assessing sound differences.

With these tips in mind, you'll have your Jamo speakers set up to deliver exceptional audio quality for your home entertainment system. Enjoy an immersive experience!
